Season 1, Episode 4

The One With George Stephanopoulos. Between a moping Ross getting his nose broken at a hockey game, Rachel’s old friends coming to visit her, and all 3 girls ruining their slumber party, this episode has lots of laughs and lots of great scenes!

A life lesson that can be taken from this episode is: real friends will make you feel good about yourself and they will always be there for you. Sure it’s a cheesy one, but it’s totally true, and we can see this through Rachel in this episode. She gets her first paycheck and doesn’t get much money from it, and on top of that her old friends come back and don’t hide the fact that they think she is making a very bad choice by living on her own. Rachel’s quite sad about this and she comes back to Monica’s apartment and basically brings Monica and Phoebe down with her. But they stick together, they are there for each other, and they end up having a great time because they are real friends who care about each other. Likewise, at the end of the episode where everyone’s playing Twister, she gets off the phone with the VISA company and sees all of her amazing friends falling and laughing together, and in this moment she realizes that she is actually fine. She realizes that other people and her old “friends” might think she’s crazy, but that it doesn’t matter because she knows that she is happy and satisfied with where she is now. And, she also knows that she would never be there if it wasn’t for her amazing friends. This is definitely one of the more sincere moments in the show, and it shows the immense power of friendship and what true friends are for.

This one’ll crack you up!

Monica: (Who is cleaning frantically) Whose little ball of paper is this?

Chandler: Oh, that would be mine. See, I wrote a note to myself, then I realized I didn’t need the note. So I balled it up and now I wish I was dead.

Season 1, Episode 3

The One With The Thumb. This is a great episode where Phoebe finds a thumb in her soda and gets upset for receiving large amounts of money that aren’t technically hers. Also, Monica finds a boyfriend but the rest of the gang ends up liking him more than she does, and Chandler starts smoking again.

A life lesson that can be taken from this episode is: always try to be as honest as Phoebe. Since she tries to return the $500 the bank accidentally credited her with, they give her another $500 and a football phone. Not wanting either of these because of her innocence, she gives them to a homeless lady, Lizzy, who then proceeds to thank Phoebe by buying her a soda. Here Phoebe finds the thumb in her soda and gets $7,000 from the soda company. At this point she doesn’t know what to do anymore, and tells Chandler that if he stops smoking she’ll give him $7,000. Money is something people always wants to have, including Phoebe, but since the money that she finds herself in possession of isn’t rightfully hers, she doesn’t want to have anything to do with it. She is such a sincere person and honestly sets quite the example for others.

Season 1, Episode 2

The One With The Sonogram At The End. Between Monica’s parents coming over, Ross finding out that Carol is pregnant, and Rachel having to return her wedding ring back to Barry, this episode is full of crazy events!

A life lesson that can be taken from this episode is: life may throw many obstacles in your way, but you just have to keep pushing on. We see this happen through every character I mentioned earlier. Monica has to push past her parents liking Ross more than her, and she does even though they critique her every move. Ross has to push past the humongous shock of finding out that his ex-wife is pregnant, and at the end of the episode he is so happy when he sees the sonogram of his baby. Even though he was so confused as to how it was going to work, he moved past those feelings and was just happy that he could be there. Finally, Rachel has to push past the awkwardness involved in returning her ring to her ex-husband, which becomes worse because of the patient in Barry’s office. And yet, she gets over it because she knows that returning the ring is the right thing to do. All of these are obstacles, and Monica, Ross, and Rachel simply persevere and manage to push past them.
